I was recently married and like most brides to be, we want to look our best. However I had a huge workload running a small business and a lot of commitments with my clients.
My nutrition was pretty good, lots of animal proteins, lots of plant foods, high energy carbs after training, lots of omega 3 and fish oil, no packaged foods, water intake was great too.
I was very happy with how my wedding dress was fitting but there was still much inflammation the day I got to walk down the aisle. After our wedding, my training had dropped back from three to four times a week down to two, I was still working like crazy, body fat was still stubborn in spots and my energy levels were failing me, so much so that it got to the point where my lovely husband even drove me to my training sessions because I fell asleep on two occasions driving home.
I dropped back the intensity of my training sessions and began to play around with carbohydrate intake and timing to see if that would help me make it home without the overwhelming need for a sleep. It helped a little but not enough.
6 months earlier my bloods suggested my higher than average TSH reading could be an issue so back I went, this time to a Endocrinologist for another full set of bloods and advice to try work out what was happening. All tests came back as no major concern, in fact everything was optimal, except TSH was still a tad above average…the solution presented to me was a lifelong prescription of Thyroxin.
Although I chose not to make that my solution, I was advised by the specialist that like it or not, when I fell pregnant in the future, I would HAVE to take Thyroxin then. For me personally, I felt this was not the answer.
I couldn’t help but reason on the matter. If my TSH levels were slightly elevated, then there was a reason for it and I needed answers. As the saying goes, when you seek, you shall find! I needed to take responsibility for my health.
I continued on with my love for all things health and fitness and came across a podcast my trainer had done with Bob Guiel. Bob is a world leader in his field of expertise. His work has transformed the lives of many. He holds a masters of science in applied clinical nutrition. I found my guy!
Bob practices NRT, designed by Dr Gary Lasneski. It’s an extremely comprehensive form of muscle testing used for assessing individual biochemical and physiological requirements designed for the clients specific needs. Bob integrates his knowledge of nutrition and nutritional biochemistry with homeopathy herbal medicines and exercise science for a truly holistic and functional approach to health care. This appealed to me greatly.
Bob explains “My training specifically looks at the pathways….what vitamins, minerals, nutrients, what pathways do they belong to, how do they fit into those pathways and how do they help in resolving specific disease states”.
I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from Bob on five seperate occasions between May 2014 and June 2016 and also be treated by him. Through this form of muscle testing, we found that my mitochondria was indicating the need for further investigation…it was my mitochondria that was negatively impacting on my thyroid health.
The Mitochondria are the cell’s power producers and is responsible for converting energy into forms that are usable by the cell. Mitochondrial dysfunction is often associated (among many other things) to thyroid issues. If the mitochondria wasn’t doing its job properly, then how could the thyroid possibly do its job properly.
We dug deeper to identify until we could identify the issue, which went beyond the mitochondria too. Using applied muscle testing, my body gave Bob all the answers he needed!
Finally I found a was to identify the issue and treat the issue, not the symptom! 12 months later when I was pregnant and had my blood panel ran again, my TSH levels were perfect!
Applied Muscle Testing is something I am thrilled to offer as a service at Assist PT.
With special thanks to Bob and all he’s taught me, I can now collect data from the body and determine nutrient deficiencies, which nutrients fit each individuals unique biochemistry, identify issues related to toxin build up, detect side effects from foods, determine what nutrients you’re in excess of or lacking in, allergies and food intolerances…it’s been an incredible service to help our clients get incredible results faster and feel better!
Applied Muscle Testing is great for those whose results have plateaued, suffering with digestive issues, lacking energy, taking lots of supplements and vitamins but not really knowing what’s best for them.
