Is a busy schedule in the way of you achieving your goals or on the way?
Anything that stops us from taking action can be defined as “in the way” but should you hold off starting something until you can give it your best effort, when things in your life improve? Life will always be full of surprises and reasons that can hold us back from taking action. This photo was taken 12 months ago, a photo of me “on the way” to becoming a better coach. If I had a different perspective, I could’ve very easily used not spending $36,000 wisely or being at a stage of my life where I couldn’t be 100% focused to get the full value out of the 12 month mentoring program I chose to do, as reasons that were in the way. Reasons to not commit to something that has given my future self so much value. Instead I empowered myself by giving myself an opportunity to see how much I was capable of doing, even with a whole new world of no sleep, and more importantly, the things I learnt shaped me further and turned into knowledge that will be with me for a lifetime.
Had I not committed, I would have fell more into my comfort zone and perhaps held off this opportunity for many years, maybe never.
As a coach, sometimes I find myself wanting change for my clients more than they want change themselves because I wasted so many years allowing things to be in the way. I have to coach myself through those moments too. Have you ever wanted to do something but your mind tells you, “you shouldn’t, hold off and wait until you can give it your all because you won’t reap all the benefits right now?” Our thoughts contain much power and often change is way more scary to think about than it actually is to do. So when it comes to change, doing something that can help you improve your health, wellness, your knowledge, your power; do you see the things that hold you back from taking action as in the way or on the way? If you have a burning desire for change but worry that now is not the right time to take action, remember you’re capable of a lot more than you may realise right now.
Those things you perceive as “in the way” of you getting the most out of your experience are often things “on the way”, things that allow you opportunities to see just how strong and capable you really are.
This was one of our clients Jono. When I first spoke to Jono he was working really long days in tv production and had a 3 week filming gig in Sydney in 6 weeks time. Instead of Jono holding off until after he returned to begin his 12 week training package with us, he decided to join us the week after his Discovery Call. When it came time for him to go to Sydney, Matt wrote him a training program so he could continue to train in the hotel gym and we gave him some meal tips to help him continue with his nutrition guidelines. This photo shows Jono results 15 weeks after he decided to join us with a 3 week business trip in between. You can find out more about Jono’s results here.
